It’s been four weeks since the release of the most anticipated movie of the 2015, and there have been several reviews of the movie so far. All of them either saying it was the greatest thing ever, or some saying it was worse than the Star Wars Holiday Special. If you take a step back, it’s neither of those. It’s a fun, average Star Wars movie, which is a bit of a letdown for me. I was expecting more depth and originality, along with scenes that blow you away or put you on the edge of your seat. Instead we got a (spoiler alert) heartbreaking scene of Han Solo falling to his death without much gravitas or significance to it. Hopefully we see a greater significance to his death in the later films, but I don’t know how I feel about a movie supposedly for kids where it shows a young man killing his own father.
I still have to say there were scenes where I put my fist up in the air and cheered. I love how they reintroduced the Millennium Falcon. I laughed out loud at a lot of scenes of BB-8 and his banter with the new characters. And I loved the new style of choreography with the lightsaber fights.
So I had to put a little Star Wars band-aid on my heart after seeing it for the first time, but after seeing it a second time, I enjoyed it a lot more and picked up on a few clues that make everything more interesting, which I’ll talk about.
Now a lot of people after seeing the movie had a theory that Rey is the daughter of Luke. I think that this could be a possibility, but I think the movie hints toward something more mysterious. Rey is the Grand daughter of Obi Wan! And I have some clues that back it up.
There are several hints in the movie
We hear the voice of Obi Wan
She has accent
She has his same skills
She has his toughness
She found the lightsaber in a chest that was similar to the one that Obi Wan had at his hut on Tattooine
It will be interesting to find out her lineage, and I am confident that the next movie will be better than The Force Awakens. Ryan Johnson is a much more bold and artistic director than JJ Abrams. Abrams I’m sorry to say is a generic action director. Good thing is we don’t have to wait three years for the next chapter. Episode 8 will be released May 2017.
