The cast of the new and upcoming Star Wars Anthology film has been revealed with a new production photo. Rogue One is the name of the Anthology film that has some familiar and new faces taking on the role of the reconnaissance crew of the Rebellion which steals the plans for the first Death Star. The story is said to take place between Revenge Of The Sith and A New Hope. It will be directed by Gareth Edwards who brought us Godzilla.
I wonder if this story will have any characters that we care about or relate to. Are these going to be characters we need to know who are part of a bigger story? We already know the ending of the story; their plan works. Their whole mission though would have been in vain if the the escape-pod that the droids jettisoned from in A New Hope had been destroyed on launch.
Perhaps Rogue One will essentially be a prequel that is for the sake of making a good prequel which we should have been given in May 1999.
Producer Kathleen Kennedy has said that the movie will focus on ground battles as opposed to space battles.
The first thing I noticed in the photo was a background prop that looks exactly like a prop from The Force Awakens when we see BB-8 for the first time. What is that big piece machinery for? Maybe it’s something that links the two movies together.
I’m assuming the main character will be played by Felicity Jones. As Kathleen Kennedy said during the Star Wars Celebration Anaheim, that the Star Wars universe has been waiting a long time for more strong female characters. Sounds good to me, as long as their acting isn’t stiff or full of cringe worthy crying.
According to Star Wars official website:
“To create the lived-in, realistic feel of Rogue One, [Director] Edwards chose Greig Fraser (Zero Dark Thirty, Foxcatcher) to be director of photography, Neil Corbould (Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan) to be his special effects supervisor. Star Wars and Lucasfilm veteran Doug Chiang (Star Wars: Prequels, Forrest Gump) and Neil Lamont (supervising art director for the Harry Potter series, Edge of Tomorrow) will be the production designers. Additional crew members will include stunt coordinator Rob Inch (World War Z, Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger)” Original Source
So it looks like Rogue One has a crew with an impressive acumen. Let’s hope that they can make this part of the story relevant and interesting.
